Automotive component leader UNO Minda is taking major steps to strengthen its footprint in the electric mobility space. The company has approved the purchase of the remaining 49.90% stake in its joint venture with Germany’s Buehler Motor GmbH, making Uno Minda Buehler Motor Pvt. Ltd. (UMBM) a fully owned subsidiary. Alongside this move, UNO Minda will infuse up to ₹40 crore into its dedicated EV arm, UnoMinda EV Systems Pvt. Ltd. (UMEVS), to fuel expansion and meet growing working capital needs.
Full JV Takeover Boosts UNO Minda’s EV Component Strength
UMBM produces traction motors for electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers, a key component of the EV powertrain ecosystem. With full ownership of the joint venture, UNO Minda plans to streamline operations, enhance integration, and fast-track growth in the rapidly expanding electric components market.
The acquisition is expected to be completed by Q4 FY26 for a nominal cash consideration. After the stake transfer, the existing joint venture agreement will be replaced with a new technical licensing agreement with Buehler Motor GmbH. UNO Minda has confirmed that this transition will not materially affect ongoing manufacturing operations or business continuity.
₹40 Crore Infusion to Accelerate EV Subsidiary Expansion
To support the rapid expansion of its EV-focused operations, UNO Minda will invest ₹40 crore into UMEVS. This funding will focus on working capital, new product development, and scaling the production of EV-specific components.
UMEVS plays a key role in advancing EV technologies, aligning with UNO Minda’s broader goal of becoming a leading supplier of electric mobility components for two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and passenger vehicles.
Driving Growth in Line With India’s EV Transition
UNO Minda has been steadily expanding its presence in the EV sector through various initiatives. Earlier in 2025, the company unveiled a ₹423 crore plan to develop high-voltage powertrain products for four-wheelers via a separate joint venture.
With India’s EV market experiencing robust growth, especially in the two-wheeler and three-wheeler segments, the full consolidation of UMBM and continued investment in UMEVS strengthens UNO Minda’s position as a more agile and reliable technology partner for OEMs.
Industry Impact and Growth Outlook
UNO Minda’s strategic initiatives underscore its commitment to India’s transition toward clean mobility. By consolidating torque motor manufacturing, strengthening technical collaborations, and expanding EV component production, the company is well-positioned to capture a growing share of the fast-expanding electric vehicle market.
Industry experts expect that these initiatives will enhance operational efficiency, drive product innovation, and support greater domestic manufacturing of EV powertrain components.
