OMNIVISION, a leading global developer of semiconductor technology including advanced digital imaging, analog, and display solutions has launched the industry’s only single-chip liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS) small panel with ultra-low power for next-generation smart glasses.

The OP03021 LCOS panel delivers a 1632 × 1536 resolution at 90 Hz in a compact 0.26-inch optical format, enabling next-generation smart glasses to achieve higher resolution with a wider field of view (FoV). These features are in high demand by consumers, as they provide a more immersive, realistic, and comfortable augmented reality (AR) experience, supporting the growing adoption of smart glasses.

The new OP03021 LCOS microdisplay combines higher resolution and an expanded field of view (FoV) with the efficiency of a low-power, single-chip design. This ultra-compact yet powerful LCOS panel is a key enabler for smart glasses, making them more stylish, lightweight, and comfortable for all-day wear,” said Devang Patel, Marketing Director for the IoT and Emerging Segment at OMNIVISION.

Smart glasses are rapidly emerging as a leading consumer tech product, with the potential to achieve popularity on par with smartphones. We are thrilled to play a role in this transformation, working closely with top smart glasses designers and manufacturers to help bring smart glasses into the mainstream and make them an everyday device for consumers.

The OP03021 LCOS, featuring smaller 3.0-micron pixels and an integrated control, frame buffer memory, and MIPI receiver on the silicon backplane, helps reduce both size and power consumption key considerations in smart glasses design,” said Karl Guttag, President of KGOnTech.

The OP03021 LCOS panel delivers a 1632 × 1536 resolution at 90 Hz using a field-sequential input through a MIPI-C-PHY 1-trio interface. Housed in a compact FPCA package, the panel is currently available for sampling and is expected to enter mass production in the first half of 2026.
