Continental, a global leader in tyre technology and mobility solutions, has unveiled a new range of low rolling resistance tyres for passenger cars and vans, underscoring its commitment to sustainable and energy-efficient mobility. Designed to minimise energy loss, the tyres help reduce CO₂ emissions while extending driving range particularly for electric vehicles marking a significant step forward for both EVs and conventional vehicles.

Rolling Resistance Reduction Drives Cleaner Mobility

Rolling resistance refers to the energy lost when a tyre deforms while rolling, which significantly impacts a vehicle’s fuel efficiency. Continental notes that tyres account for 20–30% of fuel consumption in internal combustion vehicles, while in EVs, optimised rolling resistance directly contributes to extended driving range and reduced energy usage.

Dr Christian Strübel, Continental expert on rolling resistance, explained, “Reducing rolling resistance is a key development goal. The less energy a vehicle requires to move, the longer it can travel, saving customers money while benefiting the environment.

Balancing Efficiency and Safety

While lowering rolling resistance enhances efficiency, Continental stresses that safety and grip remain uncompromised across all driving conditions. The new tyre designs use advanced rubber compounds and optimised tread patterns to deliver strong handling, reliable braking performance, and long-lasting durability. As a result, drivers gain improved energy efficiency without sacrificing safety an essential balance for both urban commuting and long-distance travel.

Supporting Electric Vehicles and Sustainable Urban Transport

Low rolling resistance tyres are particularly beneficial for electric vehicles, where efficient energy management is critical to maximising driving range. By reducing energy loss, Continental’s latest tyre technology enables EVs to travel farther on a single charge, supporting wider adoption of electric mobility and helping advance global carbon reduction efforts.

This development aligns with Continental’s long-term strategy to promote sustainable transportation solutions, lower emissions across vehicle fleets, and assist governments, businesses, and consumers in the transition toward cleaner and more energy-efficient mobility.

Commitment to a Sustainable Future

As cities and nations accelerate efforts to cut emissions and adopt greener mobility solutions, Continental’s low rolling resistance tyres position the company at the forefront of sustainable transportation. By balancing energy efficiency with high standards of safety and performance, the tyres are set to play a key role in boosting EV adoption and encouraging more environmentally responsible driving worldwide.
