Blue Energy Motors (BEM) has unveiled an electric heavy-duty truck featuring advanced battery swapping technology at its Chakan facility in Pune. The launch event was graced by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also inaugurated the Mumbai–Pune electric corridor, marking India’s first fully electrified highway route.
The Mumbai–Pune corridor represents the first phase of an ambitious initiative to electrify major national highway corridors over the next three years. This project is a crucial step toward supporting India’s Net Zero ambitions and building a sustainable freight transport ecosystem.
BEM has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra government to establish a new manufacturing facility capable of producing 30,000 electric trucks annually, supported by an investment of ₹3,500 crore. The company has already secured commitments for over 10,000 electric trucks, signaling strong market demand for clean freight solutions.
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Fadnavis emphasized Maharashtra’s leadership in sustainable innovation, noting that the initiative aligns with the nation’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and environmental responsibility.
Anirudh Bhuwalka, Founder and Managing Director of Blue Energy Motors, described the launch as a defining moment for India’s heavy-duty electric truck segment. He highlighted that the company’s trucks combine unlimited range through battery swapping, high payload capacity, and advanced mobility intelligence to ensure maximum fleet reliability.
Designed specifically for Indian operating conditions, the new truck builds on BEM’s earlier success with LNG-powered models. It introduces an Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) model that helps reduce upfront capital expenditure, minimize charging downtime, and deliver the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) in its category—all while offering the highest payload capacity.
Anshuman Ruia, Director at Essar—a strategic partner in the venture—hailed the launch as a milestone in India’s decarbonization journey, reaffirming their shared commitment to green mobility through cleaner energy and sustainable infrastructure.
Blue Energy Motors continues to pioneer sustainable heavy-duty mobility solutions in India by manufacturing electric and LNG-powered trucks that serve as cleaner alternatives to traditional diesel freight vehicles. Its business model seamlessly integrates advanced truck technology, energy-as-a-service, and end-to-end maintenance support to deliver a complete ecosystem for modern freight transport.
